Meet Margin: a considered home for independent voices

Meet Margin, our editorial Ghost theme for independent publications and newsletters. Explore the real demo, light and dark modes, and setup essentials.

A publication needs more than a place to put its posts. It needs a point of view: a first impression that feels intentional, a clear way into its ideas, and enough space for readers to stay with a story.

Meet Margin, our editorial theme for Ghost. Designed for independent analysis, thoughtful newsletters and reader-supported publications, it pairs expressive typography with a calm reading experience. You can explore the live demo in a new tab to see the design in context.

An editorial home for your ideas

Margin’s homepage gives your publication a clear introduction, then leads into its latest writing. An optional selection of featured essays offers a starting point for new readers, while topic collections help them follow an idea further.

A dedicated article library and topics index give the archive a place of its own. Inside an essay, the focus stays on the writing, with an optional table of contents and related posts to support deeper reading. These sections follow the content you publish and the options you enable in Ghost.

A different mood, day or night

The light palette brings a quiet, paper-like feel to the publication. Dark mode offers an alternative reading environment, and readers can keep their preferred appearance. The screenshots here are captured from the real Margin demo.

Make the design your own

Start with the original Margin palette, or explore Ocean, Clay and custom accent options. Reading controls let you choose an editorial serif or clean sans style, along with a reading size that suits the publication. Ghost’s native branding and font controls remain part of the setup.

Hero and signup copy, membership calls to action and optional homepage sections can be configured through Ghost Admin. You can also choose whether to show the article contents rail and related posts. English and Vietnamese interface translations are included.

Built around Ghost’s publishing tools

Margin uses Ghost’s native editor and works with its search, Portal memberships and comments. Those services are configured in your Ghost installation; the theme provides their place within the publication.

Paid memberships require your own Stripe connection. Hosting, domains and third-party service fees are separate, and the theme’s design options do not change newsletter email layouts. The live demo is an example publication: its essays and imagery are not included as a ready-made content library.

Before you begin

You will need Ghost 6 or newer, administrator access, and a hosting setup that permits custom theme uploads. This can be a compatible self-hosted installation or a Ghost(Pro) plan that supports custom themes.

Installation includes uploading the theme ZIP and the supplied routes.yaml, then configuring the publication’s navigation, About page and topics. Use the included setup guidance and review the compatibility and installation requirements before choosing the theme. Margin is built for Ghost and cannot be installed on Shopify or WordPress.

Find your next perspective

The best way to get a feel for Margin is to move through the demo: start on the homepage, explore the library, open an essay and try the light/dark switch. Consider how your own writing, topics and publication identity would sit within those layouts.

View Margin’s product details for current pricing, available files, license, updates and support, or open the Margin live demo in a new tab. If you have a question about your publication, talk to the studio.
